A Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta, on Friday, sentenced Kehinde Afupe, 26 and Oganla Suleman, 71, to three months imprisonment for assaulting an environmental health officer, while discharging her lawful duties.

The Magistrate, Mr Dehinde Dipeolu, sentenced the duo after he found them guilty of a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

Dipeolu held that the prosecution proved its case beyond all reasonable doubt and that  the defendants were guilty.

He sentenced them to three months in a correctional centre without an option of fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Olu-Balogun Lawrence, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept. 28 at No. 47 Ikereku Idan area of Abeokuta.

Lawrence said that they assaulted Ms Onelabi Funke, a health officer attached to Abeokuta North Local government Area, by beating her up.

“They also tore her uniform because she requested that Afuape should show her certificate as a food vendor and Suleman, the toilet in his house.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 35 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006. (NAN)
