NDLEA nabs owner of drug-laden consignment sparking chaos at Lagos airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully apprehended the suspected owner of a controversial consignment containing tramadol, concealed within a bottle of dietary supplements.
The incident, which caused a commotion at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja on Tuesday, culminated in the suspect’s arrest on Friday, as confirmed by NDLEA spokesperson, Mr Femi Babafemi.
The arrest follows a viral video depicting the suspect allegedly being tortured on his knees and slapped by another individual, who claimed the suspect was an employee of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
However, FAAN promptly distanced itself from the individual, clarifying that he was an employee of an aviation services company operating within the airport premises.
The confrontation unfolded when a passenger accused the individual of attempting to use him to traffic drugs to Accra, leading to physical altercation.
FAAN transferred both the suspect and the exhibit to NDLEA on Thursday.
According to Babafemi, preliminary investigations by NDLEA revealed that the concealed parcel contained 50 pills of tramadol within a bottle of dietary supplements.
The suspect, who returned from Ghana on Friday, has reportedly confirmed ownership of the illicit substance.
In a related development, NDLEA disclosed that two freight agents and a traveler narrowly escaped being unwittingly involved in two separate drug trafficking operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja.
The agents had been approached to send a consignment of 1kg of Indian hemp concealed in tins of chocolate drink to Turkey.
Fortunately, the agents opted to submit the shipment to NDLEA checks before processing the cargo, avoiding potential legal entanglements. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
