Igbinedion varsity to inaugurate legacy projects to mark 25th anniversary

The Management of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo, on Tuesday disclosed that the institution will be inaugurating legacy projects as part of activities lined up to commemorate the school’s 25 years of academic excellence on May 10, 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, made this known during a press conference to announce the programme of activities lined up to mark the celebration in Okada.

Ezemonye also unveiled the 25th anniversary logo to the general public and announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

He said former president Goodluck Jonathan would be the chairman of the occasion, while retired Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar would be the Guest of Honour

The vice chancellor listed the legacy projects to include IOU Palm Oil Processing Mill and the IOU Hotel at Okada, among others.

He noted that the university, since inception in 1999, has achieved remarkable successes in teaching, research, capacity building, innovative studies and has produced exceptional graduates in diverse fields.

He explained that a planned week-long activities have already commenced with a free medical outreach to communities in Okada and environs which took place on April 26.

Ezemonye stated that a football tournament which would take place on May 1, would feature Igbinedion University, Okada, as the host, University of Benin, the Lagos State University, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and Fountain University, Osogbo, among others.

“Special Juma’at prayers have been slated for Friday, May 3, and a Law students moot court competition will take place on Tuesday, May 7,” he said.

According to Ezemonye, the Chancellor’s photo gallery exhibition and the inauguration of the legacy projects will take place on May 9.

He said the founders’ day colloquium, titled, ‘Re-imagining tertiary education for Africa’s present and future realities’, will take place on May 10 while, the special thanksgiving service will take place on May 12.

Ezemonye added that the attainment of 25 years of corporate existence was a notable landmark worthy of celebration, saying that the university had planned a grand celebration to commemorate the event.

He also disclosed that the university had since its establishment produced over 16,000 graduates across disciplines spread across the globe. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
