Permanent Secretary tasks civil servants to shun corruption

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana, has tasked civil servants to shun corruption in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Kana gave the charge at a two-day sensitisation programme on anti corruption organised for staff of the ministry, in Abuja.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Henshaw Ogubike, Director, Information and Public Relations, in the ministry.
Represented by Ms Susan Ochida, Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvement of the ministry, Kana said it was important for civil servants to develop new attitudes to work anchored on good governance.
He said that the government has set up Anti Corruption and Transparency Units in ministries, Departments and agencies to make the work environment corruption free.
“There is therefore the need for attitudinal change and commitments to have great success at work. I look forward to having a corrupt free working place.”
According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s administration is determined to prevent corruption and increase transparency in governance to bring about the desired development across all sectors.
Kana said that the lecture was organised to sensitise the civil servants on the negative consequences of corruption on themselves and the nation.
He said that their task was to drive development and ensure the success of government policies and programmes, not to sabotage it through corrupt practices.
Lectures were presented on “Strategies of Combating Public Sector Corruption” and “Strategies of Combating Corruption in Work Places”.
The lectures were delivered by Mr Adebayo Obaniyi and Mr Hassan Salihu of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, who advised civil servants to shun greed, which is the major cause of corruption in the country. (NAN)
