Brother Felix Adedokun, President, God’s Kingdom Society (GKS), Church of the Living God, has urged Christians to demonstrate humility, obedience, love, faith and forgiveness as proof of discipleship of Jesus Christ.

Adedokun gave the advice in his address at the GKS Abuja Zone ‘2026 Freedom Day Celebration’ on Sunday at Daki Biyu Branch of the church, Abuja.

He said it was to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, observed in October by the church.

The GKS president’s address, titled “Are We Disciples of Christ Indeed?”, was delivered by Brother Godfrey Odihili, an elder in GKS Gwagwalada.

Adedokun said true discipleship goes beyond outward professions of faith, noting that while billions of people globally profess Christianity, the world would experience positive transformation if every believer lived out Christ’s teachings.

He called on Christians to examine their lives and ensure their conduct reflected the teachings and exemplary life of Jesus Christ.

He said genuine discipleship required more than religious identification, stressing that it must be demonstrated through practical obedience to Christ’s teachings.

According to him, Jesus Christ remains the ultimate example of righteous living, having lived a perfect life and demonstrated virtues that his followers should emulate.

Adedokun said true discipleship involves abiding by the teachings of Christ in both words and deeds, adding that the presence of the Spirit of Christ in a person should be reflected in good conduct.

He urged Christians to shun pride and arrogance, and embrace humility, which is a defining characteristic of Jesus Christ.

He noted that Jesus demonstrated humility by accepting a lowly birth and washing the feet of his disciples despite his exalted position.

Adedokun also urged believers to avoid immorality, sinful desires and other behaviours inconsistent with Christian principles.

He further tasked Christians on love, saying, “Genuine Christian love goes beyond word of mouth as it is practised in deed and in truth.”

The GKS president urged Christians to maintain unwavering faith in God while warning against compromising their beliefs.

“If we strive to be disciples of Christ indeed, we should not be members of secret cults or societies or any organisation that makes jest of or turns people against God Almighty,” he said.

On forgiveness, the cleric urged Christians to pardon those who offend them, noting that forgiveness is essential to maintaining peaceful relationships and seeking God’s mercy.

Also speaking, the Station Minister, GKS Abuja Zone, Brother Kingsley Iriferi, described the birth of Christ as the most precious gift to mankind.

Iriferi said over 2,000 years ago, God sent Jesus Christ to redeem mankind from sin and death following the fall of Adam and Eve.

He advised Christians to emulate the humility, love and sacrificial life of Christ.

On the birth of Christ, Iriferi said Jesus was not born on Dec. 25 as celebrated by many Christians today, but in October, citing biblical references and research to support the church’s position.

Iriferi cautioned religious leaders against becoming praise singers to political figures, saying their responsibility is to guide leaders to govern in the fear of God and in truth.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), an elder of GKS Abuja Zone, Brother Joshua Fregene, advised religious leaders to lead exemplary lives as demonstrated by Christ.

He said once church leaders speak the truth, live transparently, act with love and promote development, society would become a better place for everyone.

“Yet, once the leader leads by telling falsehood, what do we expect? You will see that followers will also want to cling to falsehood,” he said.

The Chairman of GKS Kubwa Branch, Brother John Igweneme, also tasked church leaders to speak truth to authority.

Igweneme said strict adherence to the unadulterated truth of the Holy Bible and speaking truth to power remains key to national transformation and the eradication of corruption in Nigeria.

He said in spite of the prevalence of societal vices and economic hardships, the solutions to the nation’s struggles lie in moral integrity and alignment with divine principles.

“John 8:32 says: You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” he said.

On why corruption and societal decay persist in spite of the proliferation of churches, Igweneme said the church had not failed in its duty.

He attributed the rise in moral decline to biblical prophecies concerning perilous times in the last days, marked by the emergence of false prophets and teachers leading people astray.

The Chairperson of GKS Women Fellowship Nigeria and Abroad, Sister Cindy Igba-Ujene, urged women to help build a godly nation by first building their homes.

She urged women to be good wives and mothers, acquiring the knowledge required to maintain a godly household.

“As a woman, you have to be knowledgeable. You have to know what you should do in terms of building a home. Proverbs 14:1 says that a wise woman builds her home, whereas the foolish one destroys it.

“It is up to women to start right from the home to build a good nation because the home is a circuit from which the nation emerges,” Igba-Ujene said.

She added that when women build strong homes, the positive impact extends to the wider society, noting that broken homes negatively affect the nation.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
