The All Progressives Congress (APC) presented the certificate of return for the Nov. 16 Ondo State governorship election to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the winner of the April 20 primaries.
The APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, handed over the certificate during a ceremony at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Ganduje expressed optimism about the APC’s chances of securing a landslide victory on Nov. 16.
Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation for the sportsmanship displayed by aspirants who contested the April 20 primaries.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shetima, the party’s leadership, members of its National Working Committee (NWC), and state stakeholders for their commitment to maintaining party unity.
He commended their efforts in overseeing the party’s affairs even before the Ondo State governorship primary, emphasising the transparency and fairness of the process.
He acknowledged complaints and petitions from some aspirants who contested the party’s ticket with him but noted that they had all resolved their differences.
Accepting the party’s flag as its gubernatorial nominee for the forthcoming Ondo State Nov. 16 governorship election, Aiyedatiwa pledged to lead an inclusive government if elected as the state’s next governor.
He expressed gratitude for the support received from the party’s members and the entire state community during his pre-primary tour.
Regarding opposition parties in the state, Aiyedatiwa asserted the APC’s dominance, stating that it remained the preferred party in Ondo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Aiyedatiwa secured 48,569 votes, defeating his closest rival Mayowa Akinfolarin, who polled 15,343 votes at the primaries, while Olusola Oke came third with 14,865 votes. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
