Women Leaders Support Advancement (WLSA) has commended the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, for supporting women empowerment, social inclusion and humanitarian development.

This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday by the National Coordinator of WLSA, Fauziya Buhari-Ado.

Buhari-Ado said the commendation followed a high-level engagement at the United Nations House in New York, where Mohammed received the Founder of WLSA.

She quoted Mohammed to have acknowledged Nigeria’s efforts in supporting women, particularly the vulnerable and underserved, and applauded WLSA’s grassroots initiatives aimed at empowering women in local communities.

She encouraged the organisation to sustain its humanitarian interventions, noting that inclusive social and economic opportunities for women remained critical to national and global development.

The UN deputy secretary-general described WLSA’s work as timely and impactful, urging continued advocacy and action to uplift women seeking improved livelihoods and dignity.

Also, Deborah Hornecker, on behalf of WLSA and partner organisations, including DEFAUYA Women Foundation, Ramat Foundation and Chayah Hope Foundation, expressed appreciation for Mohammed’s leadership and support for women-focused initiatives.

She reaffirmed WLSA’s commitment to advancing the welfare of vulnerable Nigerian women, stressing that grassroots empowerment remained central to the organisation’s mission.

Delivering a keynote titled: “Women at the Centre of Global Progress: Leadership, Inclusion and Collective Responsibility,” Hornecker underscored the need for global support systems for vulnerable women.

She described WLSA as a purpose-driven movement bridging advocacy and opportunity for women, from grassroots entrepreneurs to those in global institutions, to ensure recognition, support and growth.

According to her, empowering women and youths was fundamental to stabilising societies and strengthening economies.

She added that humanitarian encounters involving widows, abandoned patients and unsupported new mothers continued to drive WLSA’s interventions.

Hornecker called on Nigerian women in the diaspora to contribute to community development at home and urged leaders to embrace servant leadership anchored on compassion.

She emphasised that women were central to progress, noting that resilient, inclusive and prosperous nations were built when women lead and received adequate support. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
