Kuwait on Tuesday marked its 65th National Day anniversary in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria as well as promoting democracy, development, and international cooperation.
Speaking at a reception held to also commemorate Kuwait’s 35th Liberation Day, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Nigeria, Mr Salim Almuzayen, commended the historic and cordial relations between the two countries which date back to the 1960s.
He cited the establishment of the Al-Sabah School in Kaduna State during that period as a symbol of the depth of bilateral ties and an indication of prospects for further cooperation in education and other sectors.
Almuzayen further highlighted an ongoing project funded by the Kuwait Fund, in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners in Kaduna State, known as the “Reaching Out-of-School Children Project,” which aims to support the education of more than 200,000 children.
He expressed optimism that the longstanding friendship between both countries would continue to expand into new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.
Moreover, the Ambassador noted that his country remains proud of its democratic system, which is founded on a constitution that guarantees citizens’ participation in governance.
“Kuwait’s political leadership had consistently demonstrated commitment to constitutional rule, describing it as a source of pride and honour for the Kuwaiti people,” he said.
Almuzayen also added that Kuwait’s foreign policy is guided by moderation and clearly defined diplomatic principles, adding that the country seeks constructive engagement with nations across the world.
“Kuwait aspires to global partnership in the realisation of Kuwait Vision 2035, which aims to transform the country into a regional financial, commercial and cultural centre,” he said.
Furthermore, the ambassador added that with the determination of its people, Kuwait is steadily moving towards the future, while working to achieve the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, drawing inspiration from the values of hard work, dedication and generosity passed down through generations.
He also said that Kuwait had continued to support developing countries through humanitarian and development assistance.
He recalled that since its establishment in 1961, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development had financed development projects in 107 countries, reaffirming Kuwait’s commitment to global development and humanitarian support.
