The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mr Ambrose Gowong, as Head of its newly established New Media Unit.
The appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor and conveyed in an internal memorandum signed by Muyiwa Harrison, Deputy Registrar, NOUN, and obtained in Abuja on Wednesday by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“The development is part of efforts by the university to strengthen its digital communication strategy and enhance the institution’s visibility worldwide,” the memo said.
Gowong is expected to drive the university’s digital engagement by overseeing content development, media monitoring, brand positioning, and digital documentation.
He will also manage the institution’s presence across emerging media platforms to ensure effective information dissemination.
In addition to his new role, Gowong has been designated as the official compere for all social functions of the university, while academic ceremonies will continue to be moderated by the Registrar.
Gowong holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from Kaduna Polytechnic, a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication, and a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from NOUN.
He also obtained a Master’s degree in Development Communication from Kaduna State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication.
“The establishment of the New Media Unit under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor is aimed at centralising and professionalising the university’s communication channels.
“The institution urges stakeholders across its faculties, directorates, units and study centres to collaborate with the unit to ensure effective service delivery,” the memo stated. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
