Youthful Anthony Osarobo, on Friday, emerged the Chairmanship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ovia South-West for the July 17 Local Government Elections in Edo.
Osarobo, 30, polled 3,020 votes to clinch the APC chairmanship ticket during the primary election, held at the Iguobazuwa Community Town Hall.
Party officials in attendance described the process as “peaceful and orderly”.
At the end of the exercise, the Head of the Chairmanship and Councillorship Election Committee and Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Charity Amanyaevbo, announced Osarobo the consensus candidate.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, said the exercise “reflected consensus and unity within the party”.
“The party came up with a consensus chairmanship candidate, whom delegates voted for overwhelmingly,” Omorodion said.
He said that the process was conducted in a calm atmosphere.
The Spokesman for the Edo Independent Electoral Commission, Albert Eguaoje, who supervised the primary, also affirmed the credibility of the exercise.
“What I observed here is that things went well; the people behaved orderly, and the chosen aspirant took the day,” he said.
In a reaction, Dep. Gov. Dennis Idahosa commended the leadership of Gov. Monday Okpebholo for creating an enabling environment for a hitch-free primary election.
“With the emergence of Anthony Osarobo as the APC flag bearer, he becomes one of the youngest candidates, and we must now work in unity for our party to emerge victorious,” Idahosa.said.
He described the candidate as “committed, reliable and loyal”.
In an acceptance speech, Osarobo expressed gratitude to the party for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to replicate the SHINE Agenda of the state government at the council level, if elected.
“I will work in line with the vision of our leader and ensure development at the grassroots,” he said.
Also speaking, the outgoing Chairman of the council, Nosakhare Edobor, urged politicians to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and respect party supremacy.
Edobor called on the candidate to pursue strategies that would help to reposition the area for more developmental strides. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
