Arraignment

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 40-year-old man, John Ogele, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan for allegedly beating his wife.
Ogele, of No. 10 Alagba Community, Ido, is facing trial on a three-count charge bordering on wife battery, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Omolade Adetule, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 24, at about 5:10 a.m., at the aforementioned place at Ido.
Adetule alleged that the defendant assaulted his wife, Mrs Opeyemi Ogele, by beating her with his fist and sticks.
She also alleged that the defendant inflicted bodily injuries on the wife and smashed a Samsung Television set worth N250,000, belonging to his wife.
Adetule added that the offences contravened Section 4(1), 10(1) and 12(1) of the Oyo State Violence against persons (prohibition) law, 2020.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with three sureties in like sum.
Sanusi ordered that one of the sureties must be a parent of the defendant and the other two, elder sisters of the defendant who were present in court at the arraignment.
The Magistrate remarked that domestic violence could cause a lot of dangers including trauma for the children.
She stressed the need for couples to always tolerate each other to maintain peace and unity in the home.
Sanusi advised the defendant and couples in general to consider the dangers of domestic violence and wife battery and desist from it.
She then adjourned the case until May 19, for mention. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
