The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi, on Wednesday launched a free breast cancer screening exercise for 200 female journalists in Abuja.

The initiative, held in commemoration of the 2026 World Cancer Day, aims to promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women working in the media industry.

NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Bassey Ikpang, urged female journalists in the FCT to take advantage of the exercise, describing it as a lifesaving intervention.

Ikpang said the screening was being conducted in batches of 10 participants daily, adding that the first set of 10 journalists had already been attended to.

She encouraged wider participation, stressing that early screening could greatly improve survival and treatment outcomes.

Ikpang also commended the Federal Ministry of Health and FMC Jabi for their support in ensuring the success of the initiative.

Medical personnel involved in the exercise explained that early detection greatly improves treatment outcomes and reduces complications associated with late diagnosis.

The exercise is expected to continue until all 200 female journalists have benefitted from the free screening.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
