The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Coordinator in Niger, Mrs Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim, on Friday urged 2026 Batch “A” Stream II corps members to uphold discipline, loyalty, and selflessness throughout their national service year.

She made the call at the swearing-in ceremony marking the opening of the orientation course at the NYSC camp in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area, urging commitment to national development.

Shuaibu-Ibrahim congratulated the corps members on completing their academic programmes and mobilisation, noting that the orientation course was designed to prepare them physically, mentally, and emotionally for national service responsibilities.

She said the oath of allegiance taken by corps members should guide their conduct during service and had a lasting positive influence on their lives beyond the programme.

The coordinator urged participants to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to gain practical skills that would enhance self-reliance and improve their future economic prospects.

She also appreciated the state government for continued support to the scheme, particularly in improving camp facilities and ensuring the safety and welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

Shuaibu-Ibrahim appealed to stakeholders to support NYSC programmes aimed at promoting community development, youth empowerment, and national unity through active participation and collaboration across sectors.

Gov. Mohammed Umaru-Bago said the NYSC remained a vital instrument for national integration, youth empowerment, and leadership development since its establishment, contributing significantly to unity and development across Nigeria.

Represented by Dr Nuhu Ngaski, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport Development, the governor welcomed the corps members and urged them to be ambassadors of hard work, discipline, and innovation.

He encouraged them to participate in the state’s agricultural transformation agenda aimed at boosting food production, creating jobs, and enhancing economic growth across communities in the state.

The governor assured corps members of their security and welfare, urging vigilance, respect for host communities, and avoidance of social vices while reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities promptly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,205 corps members, including those deployed to Niger and those dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory, have been registered for the orientation course.

The Chief Judge of Niger, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, represented by Justice Zainab Sadat, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members at the ceremony.(NAN)(www Nan news.ng)
