A group in Enugu State, Nwobi Political Dynasty, has reaffirmed its support for a federal lawmaker, Rep. Anayo Onwuegbu.

Onwuegbu represents Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River Federal Constituency of Enugu State.

The group, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, decried what it called “unfounded and mischievous” voice notes and publications aimed at discrediting Onwuegbu.

The statement was issued by the group’s spokesman, Joe Udefi.

It urged residents of Awgu to be wary of those it called “wolves in sheep’s clothing” and “political attention seekers.”

The group said while it would ordinarily have ignored the claims in the publications, it deemed it necessary to respond due to what it described as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

It added that the publications were aimed at undermining the quality representation provided by Onwuegbu as well as the integrity of the Nwobi political dynasty.

“We therefore urge the public to disregard those publications as they are misleading and unfounded,” it said.

Highlighting the lawmaker’s achievements, the group described Onwuegbu as a leader of proven capacity and charisma.

According to the group, Onwuegbu had consistently engaged the Federal Government on the issue of infrastructural decay across Awgu.

According to the statement, such engagements have led to tangible projects.

These projects, it said, include the rejuvenation of Achi Hospital and the construction of six classroom blocks at Boys Secondary School, Awgu, among other interventions.

It further noted that the lawmaker had awarded scholarships to students pursuing NCE and PGDE programmes.

The group wondered why some people would ” engage in character assassination against a public servant working tirelessly for the good of the people of Greater Awgu.”

It cautioned individuals it described as “attention seekers” to redirect their efforts toward more productive ventures.

The group also warned that “legal action would be taken against those concerned if they don’t desist from such despicable acts.” (NAN)
