Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has cautioned his team and loyalists not to allow personal political ambition to derail their collective focus and goal.
Makinde said this on Friday when he hosted key political stakeholders and appointees to dinner at his Kolapo Ishola residence in Ibadan.
A statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, said the governor tasked all party members and his loyalistt to stay united to ensure the development of Oyo State beyond 2027.
He said that only 51 elective posts would be contested in the general elections out
of a population of about 10 million population in the state.
“Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51.
“So these posts can only be taken by a few people who would need the generality of the people to succeed,” the governor said.
He called on all party leaders, stakeholders, and, especially, candidates as well as aspirants for different elective offices in 2027 to stick together for the continuation of the good works started by his administration in 2019.
Makinde said that the people of Oyo State have tasked him and his team to select credible sets of people, “who can continue the good works his government has been doing,
“It is only through continued unity and the success of the team that the people of the state can continue to reap the benefits of the administration.
“So, I just want to appeal that this team must be together, and it must continue the good work we have started for the benefit of the people of Oyo state”.
The meeting was attended by his deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Debo Ogundoyin; and members of the state executive cabinet.
Also present at the dinner was the member representing Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest in the House of Representatives, Mr Adedeji Olajide, political appointees, associates and leaders, among others.(NAN)(wwe.nannews.ng)
