The National President, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA), Mohammed Buari, says the association has disbursed more than N14.6million for 140 students’ scholarship.
Buari made the disclosure at the 2026 Reunion Conference of UNIFEMGA, held at Oduduwa Hall of OAU, on Saturday, in Ile-Ife.
He said that the reunion was organised to promote intellectual discourse, networking and national development, among others.
According to him, UNIFEMGA remains committed to supporting initiatives capable of fostering unity, moral values and educational advancement for brilliant students who need assistance.
The Guest Speaker, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General, National Orientation Agency, delivered a lecture titled: “The Potential Within Nigeria’s Positive Mindset and Communication for Success”.
Issa-Onilu said that Nigerians possessed enormous human and material resources capable of transforming the nation into a global force, if only the citizenry adopted positive attitudes and collective responsibility.
He added that the country’s progress depends largely on the mindset of its people and their willingness to contribute meaningfully to national growth.
Issa-Onilu explained that Nigeria is richly blessed with talented, intelligent and resilient people across different sectors, but need positive orientation that promotes unity, patriotism, discipline and hard work.
The director-general noted that negative narratives and disunity had continued to hinder the country’s development potentials.
Issa-Onilu called on Nigerians to embrace positive mindset and community cooperation as tools for national development and success.
He admonished Nigerians, especially youths, to remain hopeful and focus on solutions capable of moving the nation forward, urging all hands on deck to promote values that encourage peace and productivity.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Abdulkabir Aliu, Chief Executive Officer, Matrix Energy Group, reiterated that positive mindset is the foundation for any great nation, urging citizens to inculcate it to grow Nigeria.
In the same vein, Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun, represented by Alhaji Bello Adeniyi, his Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs, appreciated UNIFEMGA for the laudable event and impact on the society.
Also, the OAU Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Adejare Bello, appreciated UNIFEMGA for its unwavering support towards its alma mater and support to society.
Bello said that providence has a way of making things happen, because 35 years ago when he was a student in the institution, he never thought he would become the Chairman of Council.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, said that he’s always grateful for the lives of UNIFEMGA who deemed it fit yearly to set a date for discourse of national importance.
Bamire noted that the guest speakers always speak on topics that are germane to the development of the country.
He commended UNIFEMGA for its contributions and prayed that God will continue to be with them.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
