Nze Henry Nnebe, National President, Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni Association, has inaugurated a 15-member committee for the institution’s 40th anniversary celebration.
The committee, inaugurated virtually on Tuesday, is chaired by Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the Anambra Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
A senior staff member of the institution, Dr Joseph Ogai, is the secretary of the committee.
Other members of the committee are Mr Emmanuel Afonne, Assistant Editor-In-Chief, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Abuja; Chief Oliver Ndu, the pioneer President of the Federal Polytechnic Oko Global Alumni; Mr Sunday Ochiaka, among others.
Dr Magnus Ugwa, Henry Nwasike, Francis Ekpone, Chidi Jean , Ekene Edeh, Sunday Ochiaka, Prince Stephen Ofordile, Ugochukwu Onuigbo, Akaolisa Ilo, and Noah Akpovegho are also members of the committee.
Nnebe urged members to be diligent and committed in carrying out their assignment.
“This committee is expected to produce a commemorative book to document the history, achievements and legacy of the institution over the past 40 years.’’
According to Nnebe, the committee’s terms of reference include documenting the institution’s foundation as a College of Arts and Science and its transformation into a Federal Polytechnic.
He said the committee would also identify the founding fathers and pioneer lecturers across all departments, as well as compile records of all past Rectors and their achievements.
Nnebe added that the committee would document past governing councils and their contributions to institutional development, landmark achievements of the Polytechnic, notable visits and memorable events.
“Other areas include memorable lectures and significant speeches delivered within the institution, the story of the alumni association and its contributions, as well as distinguished personalities produced by the Polytechnic.
“The committee will highlight the future prospects and expectations for the institution,” Nnebe added.
The alumni president expressed confidence that the committee members would leverage their wealth of experience to deliver a publication worthy of the institution’s 40th anniversary celebration.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Odogwu assured that members would discharge their responsibilities with the seriousness and commitment they deserved.
Earlier, Dr Chimemela Nwazue, the National Secretary of the association, encouraged members of the committee to live up to the high expectations placed on them by the president and the alumni as a body. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
