The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) says it plans to model its inaugural Nigeria Super League (NSL) after the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL).

Musa Ehizoje, the Public Relations Officer of the federation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the elite league would showcase the best of Nigerian cricket to the world.

“The NSL is an elite league structured to bring together the best players from different clubs across the country into a national club system.

“We are mirroring the IPL, a franchise league where some of the finest players in the world participate, and that is our goal in the near future.

“We want to attract players from other parts of the world who can also be bid for during the league.

“But in the meantime, the league is aimed at elevating Nigeria’s cricket to new heights while creating a sustainable pathway for players to compete at the highest level,” Ehizoje said.

NAN reports that the maiden edition of the league is scheduled to hold from Saturday to May 30 at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval, Lagos, with six teams participating.

The teams representing different regions of the country are Central Eagles, Eastern Elephants, Middlebelt Tigers, Northern Lions, Southern Sharks and Western Dolphins. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
