Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Germany, Ita Enang, has pledged to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and Germany as he prepares to assume office.

Enang gave the assurance during a farewell interaction with German envoy to Nigeria, Annett Günther, on Friday in Abuja.

He expressed excitement over his new assignment and readiness to advance the foreign policy objectives of President Bola Tinubu.

“I look forward to being in Germany to fulfil the mission of Nigeria to Germany and to fulfil the intent of Mr President in deepening the relationship between Germany, the larger Europe and the international community,” he said.

The ambassador-designate said he had already “hit the ground running,” disclosing that he recently participated in trade meetings involving German officials and investors.

According to him, the discussions focused on industrial relations, economic cooperation, investments and existing bilateral agreements between both countries.

Enang highlighted engagements with the Siemens team during meetings between Nigerian and German trade representatives.

He also commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for extensively briefing him on Nigeria-Germany relations, including trade, budgetary matters and investment opportunities.

Responding, Günther described Enang as a seasoned politician with vast legislative and foreign affairs experience, noting that relations between Nigeria and Germany spanned political, economic, cultural and security cooperation.

The envoy urged him to further promote Nigeria’s rich culture, creativity and achievements in Germany.

“Nigerians are hardworking and creative people. We know about the ingenuity of young Nigerians in filmmaking, music and fashion. I hope you will take more of that to Germany,” the envoy said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enang was among more than 30 non-career ambassadors recently confirmed by the Senate.

Enang, a former Presidential Adviser on National Assembly Matters and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, was redeployed as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany after initially being assigned as Nigeria’s envoy to South Africa. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
