Nkechiamaka Care Foundation, an Abuja-based NGO, has donated sanitary pads to 329 girls in Nasarawa State to promote menstrual hygiene and discourage drug abuse among adolescents.
The Founder of the foundation, Amb. Nkechi Ufochukwu, distributed the items on Friday during an outreach at Brainstorm Model Comprehensive Secondary School and Universal Basic Education Junior Secondary School in New Karu, Ado, Nasarawa State.
She said 129 girls benefited from the outreach at Brainstorm Model Comprehensive Secondary School, while additional beneficiaries were targeted at the UBE Junior Secondary School as part of the initiative.
According to her, the outreach focused on promoting health, wellness and social awareness among young girls, while reaffirming the foundation’s commitment to expanding the programme across Nasarawa State and beyond.
She added that the foundation planned to empower at least 200 girls at the UBE Junior Secondary School as part of its ongoing intervention.
Mrs Anwuna Rose,Principal of Brainstorm Model Comprehensive Secondary School, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the donation and for engaging students in discussions on menstrual hygiene and self-care.
Similarly, the Principal of UBE Junior Secondary School, Mr James Jezhi, commended the initiative, noting that it sensitised students on menstrual hygiene and the dangers of drug abuse.
He said the distribution of sanitary pads to female students would reinforce lessons on menstrual health and encouraged better personal hygiene practices.
The event featured cultural dance performances by members of the National Youth Service Corps, group photographs, and remarks by foundation members including Mr Haruna Christopher, Mr Nnadi Prince and Mr Terver Abor.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
