President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Malam Ali Muhammad Ali, on his 60th birthday.

Tinubu commended Ali, a distinguished journalist and administrator, for deploying his vast experience, skills and professional network to strengthen the mandate of the nation’s foremost news agency.

This is contained in a statement issued by the president’s spokesman, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday in Abuja.

The president noted that NAN had continued to demonstrate consistency in news gathering, dissemination and collaboration with multilateral institutions, foreign news agencies and media platforms under Ali’s leadership.

Tinubu said the agency’s efforts have further enhanced Nigeria’s image and helped curb the spread of fake news, particularly through digital and online engagement.

“Under Ali’s watch, NAN continues to demonstrate consistency in news gathering, sharing and networking with multilateral institutions, foreign news agencies and media platforms,” he said.

He said these efforts had further enhanced the image of the country and helped in mitigating the spread of fake news, particularly through online engagement.

The president also acknowledged Ali’s role in bridging the gap among citizens, private sector leaders and government through strategic coverage of national and international events.

He further commended the NAN boss for promoting specialised reporting on critical sectors and government programmes.

“I commend Ali, the management and staff of the agency for sustaining the mandate of Africa’s leading news agency,” Tinubu said.

As the NAN Managing Director marks his diamond jubilee, the president prayed for continued good health, strength and wisdom for him.

“As Ali celebrates his diamond jubilee, I pray that God will grant him continued good health, strength and wisdom for more years of meritorious service to the nation,” he added.

Ali, a veteran journalist, holds a graduate degree in International Affairs and Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Bayero University, Kano.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
