The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, has cautioned residents, particularly youths, against spreading false security alerts capable of causing panic among the public.

The council also dismissed fears over the alleged invasion of Lagos by bandits, urging youths and other residents to go about their lawful activities without apprehension.

The NYCN Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Adigun, made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday after meetings with key government and security officials.

The officials included the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area and Chairman of Lagos Conference 57, Mr Sesan Olowa.

Others were the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Tijani Fatai, and the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende.

Adigun said the engagements became necessary to obtain authoritative information on the state’s security situation amid unverified reports circulating on social media.

According to him, the council sought facts directly from relevant authorities rather than rely on rumours and speculation.

“As critical stakeholders in the state especially in the youth constituency, the security of lives and property is of utmost concern to us, just as it is to the government.

“Following our engagements with relevant security agencies and key stakeholders, we have been assured that there is no breach of security in Lagos State and that adequate measures remain in place to safeguard residents,” he said.

The youth leader commended the Lagos State Government and security agencies for their proactive approach to maintaining peace and public safety.

He noted that intelligence gathering, surveillance and community policing efforts had been strengthened across the state.

Adigun called on residents, particularly youths, to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities through the appropriate channels.

He also warned against the dissemination of unverified information capable of creating fear and confusion among residents.

Adigun stressed that false security alerts often undermined public confidence and distract security operatives from their responsibilities.

He reaffirmed the council’s confidence in the security architecture of Lagos State and pledged continued youth support for peace and security initiatives.

According to him, the youth constituency remains committed to promoting social stability and supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

The NYCN chairman also encouraged young people to remain law-abiding, focus on productive ventures and contribute positively to the development of Lagos State.
