The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Joint Revenue Board (JRB) have strengthened collaboration to promote ongoing revenue reforms.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by JRB Executive Director, Mr Olusegun Adesokan and his delegation, to RMAFC Chairman, Dr Mohammed Shehu, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Shehu said the partnership would enhance transparency, accountability and fairness in Nigeria’s revenue administration system.
He reaffirmed RMAFC’s commitment to ensuring that revenue reforms benefitted government institutions and taxpayers nationwide.
According to him, the successful implementation of the reforms requires cooperation among all stakeholders in revenue generation and administration.
Shehu said transparency, fairness and accountability must remain central to Nigeria’s fiscal management framework.
He emphasised the need to protect taxpayers’ interests while pursuing revenue reforms across the federation.
The chairman also reiterated the commission’s commitment to equitable revenue allocation among all levels of government.
He said stakeholders’ engagement, policy harmonisation and institutional collaboration were vital to achieving reform objectives.
Shehu pledged continued support for government initiatives aimed at improving revenue generation and allocation.
He identified tax refunds, revenue allocation and electronic transfer taxation as areas requiring further engagement.
According to him, sustained dialogue and technical consultations will help ensure fairness and efficiency in tax administration.
He added that stronger compliance and transparency would boost public confidence in the tax system.
Shehu expressed optimism that revenue collection and fiscal efficiency would improve significantly within five to six years.
Earlier, Adesokan said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between JRB and RMAFC.
He noted that effective coordination among relevant institutions was critical to achieving the goals of the new tax framework.
He said the reforms were designed to promote fairness, equity and transparency in tax administration.
Adesokan pledged that the framework would provide clearer revenue allocation mechanisms between federal and subnational governments.
According to him, the reforms are intended to benefit taxpayers, government institutions and Nigeria’s fiscal stability.
The executive director acknowledged concerns raised over electronic transfer levies, stamp duties, revenue allocation, refunds and advance tax payments.
He promised that JRB would continue consultations with stakeholders to address the issues through technical discussions.
The meeting ended with both organisations reaffirming commitment to taxpayer protection, improved revenue administration and effective implementation of ongoing reforms. (NAN)
