The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) is set to convene key stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to strengthening public institutions and accelerating public service reforms nationwide.

The bureau disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, stating that the event would feature a public lecture and other activities to commemorate the United Nations Public Service Day on June 23.

The Director-General of BPSR, Mr Dasuki Arabi, said the event reflected the bureau’s commitment to fostering excellence in the public service and supporting reforms that enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and responsiveness of public institutions.

Arabi said that strengthening institutions remained critical to achieving sustainable national development, improving service delivery and restoring public trust in government.

He said that the lecture series would enable Nigeria to join the global community in commemorating the United Nations Public Service Day while celebrating innovation, reform and excellence in public administration.

He said the forum was designed to promote the exchange of ideas, experiences and best practices aimed at improving governance and public service delivery.

He said it would also provide a platform for critical discussions on practical solutions for building innovative, inclusive, accountable and citizen-centred institutions capable of responding effectively to the evolving needs and aspirations of Nigerians.

The theme of the event is: Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion.

The forum would bring together senior government officials, policymakers, development partners, civil society organisations, academics and governance experts to deliberate on strategies for enhancing institutional performance and promoting inclusive governance.

Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, will chair the occasion, while former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Aji, will deliver the keynote lecture.

Other highlights of the event would include discussions on emerging trends in public sector management, citizen engagement, digital transformation and innovative approaches to addressing governance challenges.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UN Public Service Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2002, was observed annually to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to communities worldwide.

The day also recognised the contribution of public service to national development, honours the dedication of public servants and encourages young people to pursue careers in the public sector.

The annual observance serves as a platform for governments and institutions to showcase innovations, share success stories and reinforce commitments to improving public service delivery for citizens. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
