The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Ms Grace Ike, has been honoured with the “Silent Hero in Management” award at the 8th Silent Heroes Awards held in Abuja.

The chairman while receiving the award described the recognition as a tribute to the resilience, dedication, and professionalism of journalists across the country.

She expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that the honour would further motivate her to serve the journalism profession and society with integrity.

”I receive this Silent Hero in Management Award with profound gratitude, deep humility, and a strong sense of responsibility.

”I consider this honour not merely as a personal achievement, but as a tribute to every journalist, media professional, and union member who works tirelessly behind the scenes to strengthen our profession and advance the ideals of responsible journalism,” she said.

The FCT Council Chairman emphasised that true leadership is built on teamwork, sacrifice, and service.

She attributed the milestones recorded by her administration to the collective efforts of the council’s executive officers, chapel leaders, veterans, and strategic partners.

According to her, the recognition will serve as a renewed drive to champion the welfare of journalists and uphold ethical standards.

”As journalists, we remain custodians of truth, defenders of democracy, and advocates for accountability.

”At a time when misinformation, insecurity, and other social challenges continue to test our society, our profession must remain guided by ethics, professionalism, fairness, and public interest,” Ike added.

The union leader reaffirmed her commitment to capacity building, fostering unity within the NUJ, and creating economic and professional growth opportunities for members.

She dedicated the award to Nigerian journalists who courageously perform their duties despite numerous challenges, while also appreciating her family, mentors, and colleagues for their unwavering support.

Ike further commended the organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for establishing a platform that celebrates selfless service and highlights the impactful contributions of individuals whose efforts often go unnoticed.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
