The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has charged senior officers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to develop strategic leadership capacity to navigate the complex security challenges facing the country.
Aneke gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja, at the opening of a Strategic Leadership and Management Workshop/Induction ceremony organised for senior officers in collaboration with the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (ISMN).
He said the contemporary security environment was characterised by complexity, uncertainty, technological advancement and rapidly evolving threats which required military leaders to look beyond immediate operational demands.

”These realities require military leaders to anticipate challenges, assess risks, optimise resources and make sound decisions with long-term institutional implications,” he said.
The CAS said the workshop aligned with one of the key drivers of his command philosophy ”Standardised Training and Mission-Focused Capability Development”.
According to him, the programme is designed to expose participants to contemporary principles in strategic leadership, organisational effectiveness, policy formulation, governance, decision-making and resource management.
”We must equip our senior officers not only to manage current responsibilities, but also to anticipate and shape the future of the service,” Aneke added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that key highlight of the workshop is the expedited induction of eligible participants as ”Full Members” of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, Chartered.
Chairman of ISMN, Dr Otive Igbuzor, said the induction signified commitment to professionalism, continuous learning, ethical leadership and excellence in management practice.
”The programme which will run between Wednesday (today) and Thursday, has been deliberately structured to strengthen strategic management and leadership competencies,” he said.
He said that the two-day training would cover strategic management frameworks, emotional intelligence, strategic leadership and turning strategy into results.
”Strategy without execution is merely aspiration. Leadership without emotional intelligence can undermine teamwork, and authority without strategic vision cannot produce sustainable institutional transformation,” he added.
Igbuzor commended the NAF leadership for investing in the professional development of officers, saying deliberate investment in strategic leadership capacity was an investment in Nigeria’s national security.(www.nannews.ng)(NAN)
