Inclusion of FCT indigenes in governance under Tinubu unprecedented – Wike

By Philip Yatai

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mr Nyesom Wike, said on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu administration has accorded unprecedented recognition and political inclusion to FCT indigenes compared to any previous government.

Wike made the assessment during a  media chat with journalists in Abuja.

The minister challenged critics to evaluate the administration’s track record regarding the appointment of original inhabitants of the territory into senior federal cabinet positions and key administrative roles.

“Tell me one government that has related more with the indigenous people more than Tinubu’s administration in terms of appointment or general inclusion. Tell me one,” he asked.

Wike said that the political and infrastructural metrics achieved under this administration remain unmatched in the territory’s history.

Addressing long-standing concerns regarding delayed chieftaincy upgrades and the formal issuance of staff of office to newly elevated traditional rulers, Wike revealed that all administrative approvals have been officially finalised.

He assured traditional leaders and residents that official presentation ceremonies and the issuance of certificates to elevated first-class and third-class traditional rulers would take place soon.

“Is there any civilian government that has taken this bold decision? I have signed the necessary approvals. The certificates will be officially presented to them,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to accelerating project execution across all six area councils. (NAN)
