Wike defends Tinubu’s achievements, accuses opposition of misleading Nigerians

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing opposition politicians of misleading the public to advance their political ambitions.

Speaking during a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike insisted that political rivalry should not prevent Nigerians from fairly assessing the president’s achievements.

He said partisan interests should not stop political leaders from acknowledging genuine national progress and recognising the administration’s performance.

“Whether anybody likes it or not, Mr President has done well,” he said.

The minister argued that the opposition’s persistent criticism of the administration stemmed from its desire to seize power rather than an objective assessment of its performance.

He urged political figures to abandon “do-or-die” politics and embrace constructive debate in the interest of national development.

Wike cited comments by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, an opposition figure who had acknowledged some achievements of the current administration, as evidence that recognising good governance transcended party lines.

Defending the multi-party “Rainbow Coalition” supporting Tinubu’s potential re-election bid in 2027, Wike described the alliance as a pragmatic platform for promoting national unity.

He said that the initiative did not erase political differences but sought to build consensus around a shared vision for the country’s future.

Addressing his dual role in coordinating support for the president in Rivers and the FCT, Wike said effective leadership involved uniting diverse interests around a common goal.

He urged Nigerians to assess the administration based on its tangible achievements rather than partisan rhetoric, while calling on voters to demand accountability and examine the records of all political contenders. (NAN)
