The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Lagos State Branch, on Friday honoured the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Works, Mrs Bolanle Olukareh, in recognition of her appointment and contributions to public service.
The association presented Olukareh, an architect and ABU alumna, with an honorary award during a courtesy visit to her office in Alausa, Ikeja, and formally invited her to join the Lagos branch.
Chairman of the association, Mr Oladele Akinmegha, described Olukareh’s appointment as one of seven permanent secretaries by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as further proof of the university’s enduring legacy of producing leaders across sectors.
He said the visit was part of the association’s efforts to celebrate distinguished alumni, strengthen ties with graduates and encourage them to contribute to the growth and development of their alma mater.
“The school has led us to where we are today, and that’s why we come together to give back to the school in our own beautiful way,” Akinmegha said.
He described ABU as an institution that had continued to nurture leaders in public service and other professions without regard to gender.
“Whoever you are, as a product of ABU, you are material for any position you find yourself,” he said.
Akinmegha said Olukareh’s appointment should inspire students and young graduates, particularly women, to pursue leadership through hard work, dedication and excellence.
Responding, Olukareh said her education at Ahmadu Bello University equipped her with the discipline, resilience and work ethic required to excel in her profession.
She recalled that the rigorous demands of studying architecture prepared her to overcome challenges throughout her career.
“Our lecturers told us you need one per cent talent and 99 per cent hard work,” she said.
Olukareh urged young graduates and aspiring professionals to remain focused, diligent and committed to excellence.
“Just focus on your work. Just do your work,” she advised.
She thanked the association for the recognition and pledged continued support for its activities.
“Whatever it is that we can do, God helping us, we’ll try to do our best to support the association,” she said.
Olukareh was sworn in on April 24 as one of seven new permanent secretaries appointed by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen the Lagos State Public Service.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
