Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has called for accelerated efforts to eliminate hepatitis B as a public health threat by 2030.
The agency said Africa possesses the knowledge, tools and solutions needed to achieve the target.
Africa CDC made the call in a post on its official X account on Tuesday to mark World Hepatitis Day, observed annually on July 28.
The agency urged governments and partners to expand hepatitis testing and treatment services across the continent.
It also called for timely birth-dose vaccination for every newborn and stronger disease surveillance and laboratory systems
Africa CDC further called for increased domestic investment and stronger partnerships to improve prevention and care, while prioritising the protection of mothers, newborns and other populations at higher risk of infection.
According to the agency, eliminating hepatitis B is within reach, but success will depend on collective action and sustained commitment from governments, health institutions, development partners and communities across Africa.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
