The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has received international commendation for reforms being implemented in the country’s education sector.
The commendation came from the former President of Tanzania and Chairman of the Board of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Dr Jakaya Kikwete, during a meeting with the minister.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Education, Mr Ikharo Attah.
Kikwete congratulated Alausa on the progress being recorded in the education sector and described the ongoing reforms as evidence of Nigeria’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and strengthening education systems.
”Minister, thank you for your time. Congratulations on the efforts you are making,” he said.
The former Tanzanian president also expressed optimism ahead of the Global Education Summit scheduled for September.
He also acknowledged Nigeria’s growing influence within the partnership, noting that Alausa’s membership of the GPE Board reflected the country’s active role in shaping global education priorities and expanding access to quality education.
Responding, Alausa thanked Kikwete for his contributions to education and leadership development in Africa and beyond.
”Thank you, Mr President, for all your service to Africa, to the world, and to the children of the world for all the things you continue to do to support foundational education,” he said.
Alausa also commended Kikwete for his commitment to developing young leaders across the continent, describing his efforts as an inspiration for transformative leadership and sustainable development.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing education reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through stronger partnerships, increased investment and evidence-based policies.
He added that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to collaborate with the GPE on inclusive, resilient and future-ready education system for Nigerian learners.
President Bola Tinubu will co-chair the meeting with Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
The summit is expected to mobilise greater global investment and strengthen international partnerships in support of quality education through the GPE.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
