The 1986 set of Ibadan City Academy Old Students has renovated and donated four classroom blocks worth N9 million to their alma mater.
The Set Coordinator, Alhaji Ismaila Saka, disclosed this on Saturday in Ibadan during the set’s 40th anniversary and reunion celebration.
Saka said the renovation project was conceived two years ago when members began planning the anniversary celebration.
He explained that the set resolved to go beyond merriment and pleasantries by leaving an enduring legacy for present and future students.
“By the grace of God, that vision has become a reality.
“We successfully renovated four classroom blocks at a total cost of approximately N9 million,” he said.
Saka described the project as a testament to the set’s unity, generosity, collective determination and commitment to educational development.
He said its successful completion demonstrated that age and distance could not diminish people’s ability to make meaningful contributions when united by a common purpose.
The coordinator described the reunion as more than an anniversary celebration, saying it represented friendship, survival, shared memories and enduring brotherhood and sisterhood.
In his remarks, the Global President of the Ibadan City Academy Old Students’ Association (ICAOSA), Alhaji Ismail Bello, commended the 1986 set for its contribution to the school’s development.
Bello, represented by the association’s Secretary, Alhaja Sakirat Yusuf, urged the school management to maintain and protect the renovated classrooms and other facilities.
He also urged members to demonstrate greater commitment to paying their dues, stressing that adequate funding was essential for the association’s sustainability.
The Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Rahman Alabi, urged members to use the reunion to reconcile, reconnect and support less privileged colleagues.
“We attended the same school and graduated together, but our levels of progress are not the same,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that highlights included the presentation of gifts to former teachers and the cutting of the anniversary cake. (NAN)
