The Awo-Idemili Community UK has unveiled an immigration enlightenment initiative aimed at promoting access to accurate information on United Kingdom immigration procedures, with the goal of helping Nigerians avoid common immigration and visa-related challenges.
The Chairman of the community, Chief Chris Onumonu, who disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday stated that the initiative would be known as “the Awo-Idemili Immigration Educational Forum UK”.
According to him, the initiative would provide awareness about immigration, promote the education and responsible signposting to reliable information in line with UK immigration and visa regulations.
Onumonu said the programme, although initiated by the Awo-Idemili Community UK, was designed to benefit not only indigenes of Awo-Idemili, but also other Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom who require credible guidance on immigration matters.
“The establishment of the Awo-Idemili Immigration Educational Forum UK will provide regular enlightenment programmes on immigration processes, legal pathways and responsible signposting to appropriate sources of information.
“The forum is expected to reduce misinformation and contribute to addressing immigration-related challenges among Nigerians and the wider Igbo community in the United Kingdom,” he said.
He explained that misinformation and inadequate knowledge about immigration procedures contributed to avoidable difficulties for many migrants, therefore the need for community-based enlightenment campaign.
“As a community, we believe that access to accurate immigration information is essential.
“Through education and responsible guidance, we hope to support Nigerians in making informed decisions and complying with UK immigration regulations,” he said.
The chairman also announced the restructuring of the Awo-Idemili Community UK to strengthen unity, cooperation and mutual support among its members across the United Kingdom.
As part of the restructuring, Asa-Blessing Chijekwu was appointed as the community’s Publicity and Media Personnel to coordinate publicity for its programmes and activities.
Onumonu further announced the establishment of four committees to develop practical strategies for community development and member support.
Among those appointed to serve on the committees are Dr Victor Igwemezie, Chief Philip Mbah, Asa-Blessing Chijekwu and other community representatives.
The chairman reaffirmed the community’s commitment to promoting unity, education, empowerment and lawful migration through sustained public enlightenment initiatives.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
