The Tukur Buratai Research Centre (TBRC) has developed six professional courses to strengthen leadership, resilience and command capabilities in counterinsurgency operations.
The courses are designed to equip military leaders with skills to make sound decisions, adapt to operational pressures and sustain effectiveness in complex security environments.
This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, Director-General and Secretary, TBRC Board of Trustees.
Usman said the courses were developed by an expert committee comprising retired senior military officers, academics and specialists in military operations, leadership, resilience and security studies.
He said the four-day exercise, held in Abuja from Aug. 24 to Aug. 27, brought together retired officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force.
According to him, the six courses are Tactical Resilience in COIN, Tactical Leadership and Command in COIN, Operational Resilience in COIN and Operational Leadership and Command in COIN.
“Others are Strategic Resilience in COIN Environment and Strategic Leadership in COIN Environment,” he said.
Usman said the experts examined the changing nature of contemporary counterinsurgency operations, drawing from their operational, command and academic experiences.
He said particular emphasis was placed on preparing commanders to anticipate, withstand and adapt to uncertainty, adversity and operational pressures.
According to him, the modules also seek to strengthen unit cohesion, morale, decision-making and mission effectiveness across tactical, operational and strategic command levels.
Usman said resilience was treated not merely as the ability to endure adversity but as a leadership attribute that enables commanders and institutions to adapt, recover, learn and remain effective under pressure.
He said the multidisciplinary approach would ensure that the courses remained practical, context-specific and responsive to the realities of modern counterinsurgency operations.
The director-general said the completed curricula and course modules were formally submitted to the Chairman, TBRC Board of Trustees, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Aug. 27 for further consideration and action.
He said the initiative marked a significant milestone in TBRC’s efforts to develop capable, adaptive and resilient military leaders.
Usman said the programmes would provide a structured platform for strengthening leadership competencies and resilience among commanders operating at tactical, operational and strategic levels. (NAN)
