On October 14, the main event of the 2024 Ningbo Open officially commenced! After partnering with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for the first time last year, the Ningbo Open has been upgraded to a WTA 500 event this year, reflecting Ningbo’s increasingly open attitude toward the world.

According to statistics from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), there were 87.18 million people participating in tennis globally in 2021, with China ranking second only to the United States, accounting for 22.9 percent of the world’s total tennis population. Furthermore, China boasts the second-largest number of tennis courts in the world, totaling 49,767.

Since the first tennis court was built in Ningbo in 1987, the sport has flourished in the city. Today, Ningbo hosts tennis events of three major international associations: WTA, ATP, and ITF.

As the most professionalized sport, the three major international tennis associations have strict requirements for competition venues. In 2023, the inaugural Ningbo Open filled the gap of WTA tour events in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, showcasing Ningbo’s capacity to host world-class tournaments. One year later, the event was upgraded, placing Ningbo alongside cities such as Washington, D.C., Abu Dhabi, and Berlin as a host of WTA 500 events.

At the Sinoscience Fullcryo (Zhongshan) Equipment Manufacturing Co. Ltd., delegation members learned about a large hydrogen liquefier capable of producing five tons of liquefied hydrogen per day. This facility was jointly developed, designed, and manufactured by the company and the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, achieving the domestic production of large hydrogen liquefiers, with overall performance reaching international advanced levels. Zhongshan has prioritized the hydrogen energy industry and has nurtured several leading enterprises and research institutes in low-temperature technology, thus forming a relatively complete hydrogen energy industrial chain.

The delegation learned that as China’s pioneering manufacturer of base station antennas, the company has established two overseas production bases in India and Thailand, along with six international branches. At FCourier, a company specializing in the research, development, operation, and management of high-performance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), flight control systems, and artificial intelligence products, the delegation observed the test flights of two types of UAVs up close. Known for their exceptional performance, the company’s electric vertical take-off and landing fixed-wing UAVs with retractable rotors are sold in multiple Middle Eastern countries. They are effectively applied in various fields, including emergency firefighting, public safety, and energy inspection, and serve as an example of China’s high-end manufacturing going global. On October 8, marking the 100-day anniversary of the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, a delegation of international communication experts and foreign media outlets, themed “The World Comes to Zhongshan,” organized by the CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation, began their tour in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province.

“This is a critically important bridge, and its uniqueness and significance are evident. It connects multiple regions, including Zhongshan, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, greatly enhancing Zhongshan’s economic development. In my opinion, this bridge has opened a window to the world for Zhongshan,” said Asghar Muhammad, a reporter from the Associated Press of Pakistan, after visiting the link.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, which took 14 years of preparation and construction, reduces travel time between Zhongshan and Shenzhen from two hours to just 30 minutes. The 24-kilometer corridor is a composite project featuring artificial islands, tunnels, and various other structures. It integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater connections, making it one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects in the world. The link boasts multiple world records; the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge has the largest span of any fully offshore steel box girder suspension bridge, measuring 1,666 meters. It also features the world’s largest offshore suspension bridge anchor, with a single anchor’s concrete volume approximating 344,000 cubic meters, and includes the world’s longest two-way, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel, spanning 5,035 meters. This project sets a valuable benchmark in cross-sea channel engineering globally.

“Given the complex waterways in this region, part of the link is designed as a tunnel and part as a bridge. To address safety concerns for vehicles in the tunnel, we established an optimal underwater tunnel length of 6.8 kilometers during the design and construction phases. Furthermore, to facilitate rapid transitions between bridge and tunnel traffic, we constructed two artificial islands on the east and west sides of the underwater tunnel,” explained the project manager of the link.

“This is a highly complex project. The construction of this link has made transportation between Zhongshan and Shenzhen more efficient and convenient, reflecting the rapid advancement of China’s infrastructure!” remarked Brazilian expert Rafael Henrique Zerbetto.

The completion of the link has strengthened the economic connections between the east and west sides of the Pearl River Estuary. It connects the Qianhai Pilot Free Trade Zone in Shenzhen, the Nansha Free Trade Zone in Guangzhou, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai, and the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone in Shenzhen. Additionally, it links the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao innovation and technology corridors, facilitating the more efficient movement of elements such as technology, talent, and finance within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The 2024 China·Gaobeidian International Windoor Festival kicked off

On September 20, the 2024 China·Gaobeidian International Windoor Festival, alongside the 2024 China·Gaobeidian International Green and Healthy Building Conference, commenced. This significant event attracted over 20,000 attendees, including experts, scholars, industry leaders, and more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries and regions, all gathering in Gaobeidian City, Hebei Province, to participate in this authoritative international event focused on green and healthy buildings.

The event, lasting three days, is themed “Strengthening International Cooperation for Green Transition and Advancing the Development of Green Low-Carbon Buildings.” It is organized by the Baoding Municipal Government, the China Construction Metal Structure Association, the China Association of Building Energy Efficiency, the China Energy Conservation Association, and the China Academy of Building Research and hosted by the Gaobeidian Municipal Government and Hebei Orient Sundar Group.

The conference features over ten industry-themed sessions, focusing on international trends, experience sharing, technical systems and practices, green building materials, and quality housing. More than 150 distinguished experts and professors from many other countries and regions, alongside renowned domestic academicians and scholars, engaged in in-depth discussions, providing constructive and forward-looking solutions related to enhancing living environments, global climate governance, and energy conservation and emission reduction.
Covering an area of 60,000 square meters, the festival’s exhibition area hosts over 1,000 enterprises participating in exhibition and sales activities. Attendees can explore new products, technologies, materials, applications, and innovations in the green and healthy building sector. The exhibitions include an international green and healthy building expo, a showcase of premium green and healthy home designs, and investment promotion meetings for the green and healthy building industry. The exhibitions aim to provide comprehensive solutions across the green and healthy building industry’s entire value chain—from planning and design to construction and operations—while facilitating a platform for business cooperation and technical exchange to advance high-quality development in the construction sector.

Additionally, the festival features promotional activities showcasing local specialties, intangible cultural heritage products, and tourism offerings in Baoding to create vibrant new consumption scenarios. The inaugural National Green Building Energy-Efficient Window and Door Installation Worker Skills Competition also took place, aimed at selecting and motivating skilled workers and driving innovation and advancements in energy-saving technologies and processes within the construction industry.
In recent years, Gaobeidian City has embraced the concept of green development, actively implementing the “dual carbon” strategy, enhancing planning, optimizing its environment, establishing platforms, and strengthening supply chains. These efforts have spurred the growth of a green and healthy building industry cluster, establishing robust core technology support, creating competitive advantages within the industrial chain, and expanding international influence. The city is steadily progressing towards its goal of becoming the “International Capital of Green Buildings.”
