Comedian M.O.P returns with 4th annual comedy show

Comedian and actor Ifeanyichukwu Ogbonnaya, popularly known as M.O.P, will host the fourth edition of his annual comedy show, “Son of Patience”, in September.

Speaking ahead of the event, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, M.O.P said comedy had become a vital tool for easing stress and promoting hope amid Nigeria’s social and economic challenges.

“Comedy gives people moments of relief, encourages conversations and reminds Nigerians that hope can still exist in spite of daily pressures,” he said.

He also said the annual show had grown steadily since its debut in 2022, attracting audiences from different parts of the country.

According to him, previous editions explored themes including “Next of Kin,” “Like Father Like Son”, “Slip of Tongue”, and “Laugh in Stock”.

He noted that this year’s edition would feature stand-up comedy, music and dance performances designed to celebrate creativity and entertain diverse audiences.

According to M.O.P, the entertainment industry has continued to create jobs while projecting Nigeria’s rich cultural identity beyond its borders.

“Comedy has become an important part of Nigeria’s creative economy, supporting careers, businesses and tourism while bringing people together through laughter,” he said.

The the event is scheduled for the Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

NAN reports that the comedian is recognised for creating jokes inspired by everyday experiences and social interactions that resonate with audiences across different backgrounds.

The comedian, who hails from Abia, was raised in Port Harcourt before relocating to Lagos in 2017 to expand his career opportunities.

Over the years, he has performed at major comedy platforms, including AY Live, My Mic and I, Man on Fire, Crack Ya Ribs, Untamed, Unbroken, Night of a Thousand Laughs and Akpororo Vs Akpororo.

He has also performed internationally, appearing in Benin Republic in 2018 before touring the United Kingdom in 2023 and 2024.

His digital comedy productions are distributed through his YouTube channel, mopComedian, where he regularly shares original comic content. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
