The immediate past Chairman of Oriade LCDA, Lagos State, Mrs Ramotalahi Akinlola-Hassan, has rejected the alleged adoption of a consensus APC candidate in Amuwo-Odofin.
Akinlola-Hassan, an APC chieftain and 2027 House of Representatives aspirant, stated her position in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.
She described the reported adoption of Mr Moses Olanrewaju by some party leaders as unjust and contrary to democratic principles.
According to her, the process lacked broad consultation with stakeholders and aspirants within the constituency.
“The reported consensus arrangement does not reflect due process or the inclusiveness expected within a democratic political party
“No small group should determine the choice of candidate without engaging other qualified aspirants and party members.
“Transparency, fairness and open participation must guide decisions of this nature,” she said.
Akinlola-Hassan also questioned the basis of a reported vote of confidence in Olanrewaju.
She stressed that endorsements should emerge from credible and widely accepted processes within the party structure.
“Any endorsement must be built on clear procedures that inspire confidence among members.
“Internal democracy is essential to maintaining unity and trust within the party.
“A credible primary election remains the best approach to producing a widely accepted candidate,” she said.
She called on APC leadership in Lagos State to intervene and ensure the due process was followed.
She warned that unresolved issues could create divisions among members ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akinlola-Hassan highlighted her experience as a former council chairman, noting her contributions to development in Oriade and neighbouring communities.
She reaffirmed her commitment to democratic values and effective representation.
“Our focus is to ensure the process reflects the will of the people and strengthens the party.
“A level playing field must be guaranteed for all aspirants to participate fairly.
“This will ultimately produce a candidate with broad support across the constituency,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at a recent stakeholders’ meeting, some leaders adopted Olanrewaju as the party’s consensus candidate. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
