All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Lagos West Senatorial District on Monday reaffirmed commitment to the party’s agenda of producing credible candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders spoke during separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on the sidelines of the Lagos West Senatorial primaries in Ikeja.
The primary election, held at the Sports Centre, Ikeja, recorded a massive turnout of delegates and party loyalists from different wards across the district.
Delegates from Ikeja, Onigbongbo, Agege and Ojodu wards participated in the exercise, which returned Sen. Idiat Adebule as consensus candidate unopposed.
Party members at the venue praised the leadership for adopting consensus, describing the arrangement as a strategy that strengthened unity within the APC.
A party faithful from Agege, Mufutau Orenusi, said the consensus arrangement reflected discipline and stability within the ruling party.
“There is nothing wrong in consensus because it allows us to keep to the party structure. We are fully behind the party on this,” he said.
Orenusi described the peaceful conduct of the exercise as evidence of unity among party stakeholders and supporters across Lagos West Senatorial District.
“The primaries held here on behalf of our mother Adebule is a testament to the unity in the party.
“We can see that everywhere is peaceful and the important party chieftains are all here,” Orenusi added.
He noted that APC remained organised in spite of the large turnout witnessed during the exercise, saying the atmosphere remained orderly throughout the process.
“APC is the party of the people and we are more organised. Otherwise, there would have been trouble here with this large crowd,” he said.
Orenusi urged Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu and align with the ruling party ahead of future elections.
“I want to implore others to join the winning train and support the good works of President Bola Tinubu,” he added.
Another party faithful, Amos Fasina, said decisions taken by the party leadership must be respected by all loyal member
“We cannot be in the party and be doing other things. If our leaders ask us to support a candidate, why should we question them?” Fasina said.
According to him, party leaders understood the political direction necessary for electoral success and deserved the support of members.
“The party leadership knows what is best for us by ensuring we support a particular candidate.
“If we are not ready to obey, then we can leave the party,” Fasina added.
He maintained that Adebule remained the preferred choice of the APC for the Lagos West Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Senator Adebule remains the choice of APC for Lagos West and we are expected to queue behind her,” he said.
Fasina added that APC remained united compared with opposition parties often troubled by internal disagreements and leadership crises.
NAN reports that delegates openly endorsed Adebule by waving their registration slips during the primary conducted under tight security presence.
Several APC chieftains attended the exercise, including James Faleke, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Mr James Odunmbaku, a member of the Governing Advisory Council, and Ojodu Local Government Chairman, Olusegun Odunmbaku, also attended the primary.
Party chairmen from Ikeja, Onigbongbo and other wards were present as supporters celebrated Adebule’s return as the party’s consensus candidate. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
