The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, has pledged support to upgrade infrastructure and improve the learning environment in Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya.
The minister made the pledge during a visit to the college main campus in Gidan Waya, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Musa, who was represented by Mr Ishaku Gwabin, noted that the institution was faced with significant challenges, particularly the inadequate provision of basic amenities, essential infrastructure, and accessible roads.
He assured the college management that he would personally intervene and engage the relevant authorities and stakeholders to seek practical solutions to these challenges.
“The college plays a critical role in training teachers for our nation. Where there are deficiencies in infrastructure, we must act.
“I will work to ensure that KSCOE Gidan Waya gets the support it needs to provide a conducive environment for learning,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Ayuba Aku, the Provost of the college, commended the minister for his commitment to the institution’s development.
Aku disclosed that Gen. Musa had promised to facilitate the construction of a Computer-Based Test centre for the college and had also pledged to appeal to the Kaduna state government to construct access roads leading to the campus.
The Provost further announced that the college would hold its convocation ceremony before the end of the year, calling on stakeholders, alumni, and government agencies to support the institution in raising standards.
“We are grateful for the minister’s intervention. As we prepare for convocation, we need support in various areas to ensure that our graduates are celebrated in an environment that reflects the dignity of the college,” he said.
Earlier, Dr Christopher Yerima, the branch Chairman of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) lauded the contributions of prominent sons of the land that are contributing to the growth of the institution.
Yerima specifically appreciated the efforts of Gen. Musa and Dr Usman Kansila in supporting security and infrastructural development at the college, whom he said deserve awards from the union.
The event was organised by COEASU, and was attended by the management, staff, students of the college and other dignitaries. (NAN)
