The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has commended INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, for demonstrating courage, professionalism and institutional independence during the Osun governorship election process, describing his conduct as commendable.
A statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Martins Egbeola, also commended security agencies and the people of Osun for defending democracy and ensuring peace.
The party said Amupitan’s commitment to electoral integrity deserved recognition, particularly at a time when public confidence in democratic institutions remained critical to sustaining democracy and strengthening citizens’ trust nationwide.
It congratulated Osun Governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, on his victory, describing the outcome as a clear demonstration of the people’s will through ballots cast during the election process.
Egbeola said the result reaffirmed that candidates with requisite social capital, grassroots support and public acceptance could win elections under any political platform in Nigeria through democratic participation.
“The voice of Osun people was loud, clear and unmistakable in spite of intimidation, tension and challenges that characterised the electoral process during the election period.
“The people have spoken through their ballots, and their mandate must be respected,” Egbeola said, while urging stakeholders to uphold the electorate’s decision and democratic principles.
The party urged Adeleke to regard his second term not merely as victory, but as responsibility and opportunity to deliver inclusive governance to all citizens across Osun.
It urged him to accelerate development, improve infrastructure, strengthen education and healthcare, create opportunities for youths, and ensure democratic dividends reached every part of Osun without discrimination or marginalisation.
The party particularly commended security agencies for professionalism in maintaining peace during and after the election, saying their efforts prevented further escalation and protected citizens’ democratic rights across Osun.
It urged political actors and stakeholders to accept the result in a democratic spirit and work collectively for peace, stability and development across Osun for the benefit of citizens.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
