DPO ‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌advises residents against false alarms, unverified information

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Pankshin Division, CSP Ropzak Mise has advised residents to refrain from raising false alarms and spreading unverified information capable of generating tension and puncturing the prevailing peace in the area.

Mise gave the advice on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Pankshin, Pankshin Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.

According to him, a series of unverified reports have been circulating in the public domain claiming that multiple deaths have been recorded in different locations within the local government.

The DPO said several people had called him regarding the rumours, but the more he dispatched his staff to the scenes of the alleged crimes, the more he realised they were false alarms.

He explained that such unverified information was capable of undermining the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force in tackling insecurity.

He added that such rumours could also heighten fear among the general public and depict the LGA in a bad light.

However, Mise confirmed the death of a woman at the Tomato Market on September 18th and the discovery of another corpse on October 6th at the Monday Market with some organs missing.

He noted that those two were the only verified deaths recorded in the council area by the police, adding that other reports were just rumours and speculations.

He stated that the police had picked up some individuals for questioning and were conducting a thorough investigation to determine the level of their involvement.

Mise vowed to crack down on all criminal syndicates operating in LGA to maintain the long-existing peace the local government was known for.

Furthermore, the police boss charged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to go about their legitimate businesses without fear.

He urged people to be vigilant and to report suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action, emphasising that security is everyone’s business.

Mise reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Pankshin LGA residents. (NAN)
