Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to uphold the foundational values of peace, unity, diversity and tolerance upon which the nation’s capital was established.
Wike made the appeal on Tuesday in his message to the residents of Abuja on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud – the birth of Prophet Muhammad -.
Reflecting on the historical purpose of the nation’s capital, Wike emphasised that the FCT was intentionally established upon a foundation of unity, diversity, and mutual tolerance for all Nigerians.
He encouraged residents to actively exhibit these foundational values within their daily interactions and to consistently choose peaceful dialogue over conflict whenever resolving interpersonal or community differences.
While congratulating the FCT residents on the occasion, the minister highlighted the core virtues embodied in the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.
He described the celebration as a sacred period intended for deep spiritual reflection, urging everyone to focus on the principles of peace, compassion, sacrifice, patience, tolerance, and genuine fellowship.
The minister stressed that true celebration goes beyond festivities and requires living out the moral obligations taught by the Holy Prophet.
He called on individuals to internalise these essential virtues, noting that practicing patience, sacrifice, and fellowship in everyday life remains critical to building a harmonious society.
Addressing public safety during the festive season, Wike reassured both residents and visitors that the FCT Administration remains fully committed to maintaining law and order.
He affirmed that comprehensive security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property throughout the holiday period and into the future.
He urged members of the public to stay vigilant and actively cooperate with law enforcement authorities to maintain a secure environment.
He encouraged residents to promptly report any useful or suspicious information to security agencies, stressing that “community safety is a shared responsibility between the government and the public”.
Wike expressed hope that the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Maulud would bring lasting peace to individual homes, steady progress to local communities, and continued economic prosperity to both the FCT and the entire nation. (NAN)
