Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that 2019 under the Ethiopian calendar (2026–2027 under the Gregorian calendar) will be a period of practical implementation of major government projects.
His remarks were reported on Thursday by TV BRICS, a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) partner.
Abiy Ahmed presented seven major projects designed to accelerate the country’s development.
They include a nuclear energy development facility, a gas plant, an oil refinery, Africa’s largest airport, a second gas plant, and a fertiliser production facility.
Ahmed also included the construction of 1.5 million homes across the country.
The initiatives are planned to be implemented within five to six years.
In his address marking the Ethiopian New Year, which is celebrated on 11 September, the Prime Minister stressed the need to move from statements to practical action and the implementation of planned projects.
He also identified increasing production volumes, improving the quality of the economy and strengthening Ethiopia’s role on the African continent as key priorities.
