Dr Jonathan Dyagas, a former Accountant of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of โ€˜Njet Gwongโ€™ by the Gwong Traditional Council in the South of Kaduna State.

The title, which means the shining star of Gwong, was conferred on him by the Kpop Gwong, the paramount ruler of Gwong Chiefdom, Paul Wyom.

Speaking during the turbaning ceremony at his Palace on Sunday in Kagoma, Wyom stated that the conferment of the title was in recognition of Dyagasโ€™ numerous contributions to the development of Gwongland.

He urged the former NOC accountant to embrace the title as a renewed call to serve the people of Gwongland and beyond.

โ€œThis is a huge responsibility we are placing on your shoulders.

โ€œFrom today onwards, we want to feel the impact of this prestigious title in our land.

โ€œIt is our sincere belief that more opportunities will open up for our sons and daughters in sports and other areas of human endeavour through you.

โ€œWe want to see you become the star that shines not only for Kagoma and people of Southern Kaduna, but for all Nigerians,โ€ he added.

In his acceptance speech, Dyagas thanked the Gwong traditional institution for finding him worthy of such recognition.

โ€œThis is a proud moment of thanksgiving, reflection and renewed commitment.

โ€œMy deep appreciation goes to his Royal Highness the Kpop Gwong and the traditional council for the rare honour of this noble title.

โ€œThe title carries a powerful significance.

It symbolises light, clarity, hope and responsibility,โ€ he added.

He pledged to continue to contribute positively to the growth and development of Gwongland.

โ€œI make a firm commitment that by the special grace of God I will stand to do what is expected of me and much more,โ€ he stated.

He dedicated the title to his late mother, crediting her prayers, sacrifices, and values as the enduring legacy that made his recognition possible.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dyagas is also a former finance director and accountant of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa. (NAN)
