The Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), on Tuesday unveiled a collection of digital learning resources aimed at improving learning outcomes and expanding access to quality education across Nigeria.

‎‎The digital platforms were showcased in Abuja, during a meeting on digital resources available to achieve improved learning outcomes.

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s drive to integrate technology into teaching, learning and education administration in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The meeting featured demonstrations of the digital platforms and discussions on strategies for increasing their adoption across schools to improve teaching, learning and overall educational outcomes.

‎‎Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, urged state governments, education managers and school administrators to fully utilise the digital resources, describing technology as “indispensable” to modern education.

‎‎Alausa said the resources were designed to complement classroom teaching, bridge learning gaps, address teacher shortages and provide learners with access to high-quality educational content regardless of their location.

‎He said the ministry and UBEC had developed several digital platforms, including digital learning centres, smart classrooms equipped with interactive boards, computers and solar-powered facilities, Inspire Learning App, Nigerian Learning Passport and Ignite for Teachers.

‎‎According to him, the platforms aligned with the national curriculum are available through the ministry’s website. ‎

‎The minister explained that the Learning Passport enables pupils and students to continue learning both in and outside the classroom, while the Inspire Learning App provides curriculum-based digital content for learners.

‎He added that Ignite for Teachers (Skill-Up), on the other hand, was designed to strengthen teachers’ digital literacy and support their continuous professional development.

‎‎Alausa stressed that the platforms were not intended to replace teachers but to support them with quality instructional resources and improve classroom delivery.

‎‎”We have to use technology. It is no longer a choice. Education across the world is changing, and Nigeria must embrace digital learning to prepare our children for the future,” he said.

‎Earlier, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hajiya Aisha Garba, said technology had become essential for building a resilient, inclusive and future-ready education system.

‎Garba said UBEC had aligned its interventions with the ministry’s digital transformation agenda, through the establishment of digital learning centres in primary and junior secondary schools, deployment of smart interactive boards and expansion of smart schools across the country.

She added that the commission had also strengthened education data management systems, deployed digital monitoring and evaluation platforms and introduced Microsoft 365 to improve institutional communication and efficiency.

‎‎We have strengthened the education data system. We are also implementing digital monitoring and evaluation platforms within UBEC,” she said.

According to her, UBEC has also inaugurated Digital Champions to drive technology adoption within the commission and support states in implementing digital education reforms.

‎‎Garba said technology alone could not transform education without effective coordination, collaboration and sustained implementation.

‎She described the roundtable as a strategic platform that brought together the ministry, UBEC, State Ministries of Education, State Universal Basic Education Boards, development partners and other stakeholders.

According to her, the move is to promote innovation and accelerate the adoption of educational technology nationwide. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
