Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated Burkina Faso 2-0 on Monday to maintain their perfect record at the ongoing 2026 WAFU U-17 Women’s Tournament in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos dominated possession during a tightly contested first half but struggled to break through a resolute Burkinabe defence.
Nigeria resumed after the interval with greater intensity, pressing forward in search of the breakthrough against their determined opponents.
Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Mary Dunstan produced a brilliant finish to put the Flamingos ahead.
The late opener gave Nigeria renewed confidence as they intensified their attacking pressure against the Burkinabe.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi sealed victory in stoppage time after dribbling past the Burkina Faso goalkeeper before calmly slotting home Nigeria’s second goal.
The victory means the Flamingos have won all three of their matches in the tournament, strengthening their position among the leading contenders.
Nigeria will now look to maintain their momentum as they continue their campaign for the WAFU U-17 Women’s title. (NAN)
