Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr Nuhu Daniel, has described the completed Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji Road, in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as a “major victory” to agrarian communities in the area.
Daniel, who made the remarks on the sideline of the inauguration of the project in Dafa on Tuesday, said that the road would unlock the agricultural potential of communities in the area.
The chairman said the newly inaugurated road would dramatically transform the economic and agricultural landscape of the area council.
According to him, farmers will no longer struggle to transport their farm produce to nearby markets.
“Now all our farm products will be brought out, and I think it will also boost economic activities within the area.
He said that the new road infrastructure would solve the long-standing accessibility challenges that have historically plagued local communities, particularly farming villages and students.
Reflecting on the severe hardships faced by residents prior to the intervention, Daniel recounted how a vulnerable bridge near Tungan Sarki frequently cut off entire communities during the rainy season.
“Honestly speaking, before the construction of this road, there were terrible challenges here. We also have another bridge around Tungan Sarki. That bridge cost us a lot because, sometimes, a large volume of water would overflow it.
“The seasonal flooding severely disrupted daily life, crippling local commerce and denying young people access to education.
“When that happened, people couldn’t cross to get to their farms, and other businesses inside the terrain were halted.
“It was especially tough for students; they couldn’t get access to cross to the neighbouring community to go to school,” he said.
According to him, the successful completion of the road and bridge infrastructure serves as tangible proof that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is delivering on its governance promises.
“I think solving this problem now has given us a green light. It shows that the government is on board and that the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President is being fulfilled,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the road network would serve as a catalyst for broader economic growth, projecting that the benefits would spillover, far beyond the borders of the Kwali Area Council to impact the entire territory.
He added that it would also create an enabling environment for people to thrive in their businesses and further facilitate more job opportunities within the area. (NAN)
