The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has approved June 13 as the official date for the presentation of the Staff of Office to the Aren Eggon, Ahmed Alaku I.
This is contained in a statement jointly issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr Danladi Jatau, and the Alternate Chairman, Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the historic event will formally usher in Alaku I, as the Paramount Ruler of the Eggon nation and one of the foremost traditional rulers in Nasarawa State.
“Recall that Alaku ascended to the revered stool of Aren Eggon, the paramount traditional ruler of the Eggon people upon his selection by the Eggon Kingmakers on Friday, May 5, 2023.
“Prior to his selection, he served dutifully as the Wazirin Eggon during the reign of his predecessor, HRH Dr Bala Angbazo, who passed on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
“The occasion of his coronation is particularly significant as it marks the presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon in over four decades.
“The last of such ceremony took place on Saturday, Feb. 12, 1983, when the then Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lar, presented the Staff of Office to the immediate past Aren Eggon, Angbazo.
“It is important to note that the Aren Eggon stool was upgraded to 1st Class Status on June 1, 1982 by the Plateau State Government.
“The forthcoming ceremony therefore represents not only a celebration of royal heritage and cultural identity, but also a historic milestone for the Eggon people across Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and the diaspora.”
They also call on all Eggon sons and daughters, traditional institutions, community leaders, political stakeholders, friends, associates, and well-wishers of the Eggon nation to prepare to be part of the epoch-making event.
They added that activities lined up for the coronation ceremony were expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, unity, and enduring traditions of the Eggon people.
“Further details regarding venue, programme of events, accommodation, security arrangements, and participation guidelines will be communicated in due course.
“The Committee urges all invited guests and supporters to cooperate with constituted authorities and the planning committee to ensure a peaceful, colourful, and successful ceremony,” they said. (NAN)
