Foursquare Gospel Church, Pegi Estate in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, has urged Christians to embrace prayers, as well as medical care for healthy living.
A cleric at the church, Pastor Raph Iluyemi, made the call on Saturday during a medical outreach organised by the church for residents of Dafara community in Kuje Area Council.
He said the outreach, organised ahead of the inauguration of the church’s branch in the community, was to reach out to the vulnerable in the community.
He said the outreach was part of the church’s contribution to the physical and spiritual needs of the community.
Iluyemi alleged that the doctrine of some churches that preach, ‘prayers without medical attention is enough for healthy living’, was not biblical.
“It might be a wrong opinion for those churches that believe that you should only pray without seeking medical attention.
“At Foursquare Gospel Church, we believe that it is God that gave out the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to the medical personnel.
“The personnel are trained to carry out their own ministry because medicine is also a ministry of its own to reach out to the sick.
“Prayers without medical care may not bring about healing for those whose faith are not strong enough to heal them.
“Such people actually need medical care because even the medical experts still believe that they care, but only God heals,” he said.
According to him, it is God who has perfect healing, but doctors are also necessary to offer medical services.
The cleric urged residents of the community to take advantage of the medical outreach, check their vitals and access the available medicines.
He also urged the community to embrace God as their personal Lord and saviour. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
