The Isoko Association of North America (IANA) has elected Dr Goodie Omuyeh as Chairman of its Caretaker Committee.
A statement by the association indicated that Omuyeh is mandated to strengthen its organisational structure, promote transparency and ensure accountability in its activities.
The election outcome made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja showed that Mr Patrick Amawhe was elected Secretary; Mr Jacob Esi, Treasurer; while Mrs Ajiri Obieroma emerged Financial Secretary.
Omuyeh, in an acceptance speech, pledged to unite Isoko people across the United States and Canada while promoting effective governance, accountability and inclusive engagement.
The statement quoted him as stressing the need for the association to network with key stakeholders, political leaders and the umbrella Isoko Development Union to give Isoko people one voice on socio-economic and political issues affecting them.
Omuyeh reaffirmed his readiness to collaborate with government and non-governmental organisations to attract meaningful initiatives that would shore up the development and wellbeing of the Isoko people in the years ahead.
Omuyeh, who is a seasoned administrator, holds multiple graduate degrees in mass communication, education, administration, leadership development and social work.
He previously served as Strategic Planning Manager at Insight Communications before relocating to the United States for further studies.
His professional experience includes serving as a supervisory manager in the forensic unit of the Public Health Management Corporation of Philadelphia.
He was also a Director of Community and Behavioral Health at the Devereux Foundation, and Executive Director of a private health organisation in Pennsylvania.
Omuyeh is also a creative writer with a strong interest in Isoko culture and traditions.
He recently published the folklore of the Isoko People in a collection of Isoko folktales aimed at preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the people.(NAN)
